Salem, OregonĪ Memorial Service will be held on Thursday December 7th at 2:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church, 4197 State St. There will be a viewing on Wednesday December 6th from 12-5 PM at City View Funeral Home, 390 Hoyt St. Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann, his son David (Hanna), and daughter Rachel Solomon (Scott), brother Carey Schmidt and sister Judy Partridge, as well as seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. ![]() He was a devoted husband, father, Papa, and uncle who loved his family with a quiet and steady passion. Jim faithfully served in his church, Grace Baptist in Salem, for over fifty years. He continued to work part-time as a delivery driver for an auto parts store until fully retiring in 2012. ![]() In 1971, Jim and his family moved back to Oregon where he would work for the State of Oregon’s Printing Division for over thirty years, retiring in 2002. He then attended Grace College of the Bible in Omaha, Nebraska where he would meet and marry Ann Bailey. He went to school at Rickreall Elementary and then Salem Academy, graduating in 1962. Jim was born to Ernie and Viola Schmidt in Dallas, Oregon, on October 1, 1943. After a two-year struggle with pancreatic cancer, Jim Schmidt died at his home in Salem, Oregon on December 2, 2023, and entered his eternal home in heaven with his Lord and Savior.
